Peculiar Gas Station Experience

So today I was dropping my younger brother off in Delaware and decided to fill up gas at the local Exxon Mobil before hitting the Delaware Memorial Bridge. I'm not accustomed to filling gas there since its far from my house in Carney's Point but I figured that it was the most practical thing to do at the time. My tank is completely empty and the travel meter in my car says that I have 35 miles before I'm empty so I figured it would be for the best. I pull into the station and I tell the gas station attendant $5 regular. He fills the tank and when I turn on the engine I notice that the fuel meter hasn't changed and the travel meter is 37 miles. I'm thinkin, WTF......IS THIS GUY SHITTING ME.....So I kindly and calmly ask the guy why my meter hasn't changed and he tells me that it doesn't matter and that he gave me $5 and 1. somethin gallons worth. My gut feeling immediately tells me, by the way this guy is blowing me off, that SOMETHING aint right but I drive away cause I want to be Absolutely Certain.
So I drop my brother off at pike creek in Newark Delaware and decide to pull into the 7/11 gas station by the Burger King. I fill my car for $5 and my car travel meter adds 40 miles to the meter!!!!

I don't know about you guys but somethin sure as hell tells me that Something Aint Right.
